Car Games

205518_524359977599657_800149301_nDriving to a vacation destination with the kids this summer? Don’t let smart phones and iPods steal all of that great family time together. Try some old school car games! Here are some of our favorites:

One person hums the tune to a favorite TV show, and everyone else tries to name the show as fast as possible. The first person to guess correctly hums the next song.

One person says a word, and everyone else has to guess if it is real or made up. You can ask for definitions, which can be the funniest part of the game.

One player names an actor or actress (ex: John Travolta). The next player links the named celebrity to another actor. For example, Travolta worked with Nicolas Cage in “Face/Off.” The player continues to connect actors or actresses until he gets to a movie in which Bacon appeared. For example, Cage appeared in “Adaptation” with Meryl Streep, who appeared in “The River Wild” with Bacon. If the player takes more than six steps, his turn ends.

In this oldie but goodie, one player thinks of an animal, plant or object and the other players are given a total of 20 “yes” or “no” questions to guess the player’s item. (ex: “Is it an animal?” “Would you find it in a kitchen?”)
